Mpumelelo Mahlangu (27) from Soshanguve is set to launch his first-ever entry laptop, ConnectRSA on 30 April 2021. 

The young entrepreneur said that the drive behind starting his brand was to create opportunities for young individuals.

Mahlangu said, “ConnectRSA was born during the covid-19 pandemic when the employment rate levels in the country were low. I discovered that I was trying to get through tertiary without a laptop and with schools shutting down for lockdown, I thought of how I would have to rely on internet cafés. This had a positive impact in the creation of DTC400 electronics.” said Mahlangu.

This young entrepreneur said starting the ConnectRSA was not an easy journey because he received a lot of rejection from people. “I came across negativity from people who thought my idea was too big and unrealistic for a township characterized boy.” Mahlangu said.

 

Mahlangu said his laptop will retail for R4000.00 and has a dual hard drive that contains 128GB and 64GB, with the RAM storage of 6GB and the 14-inch screen.

Mahlangu said that he believes in the power of individuals within the South African youth. He said that they can be whoever they desire to be in future. “Whatever you think, so shall it be" said Mpumelelo the founder of Dot ConnectRSA electronic.

The young talented man plans to partner with other big brands in South Africa and get the international recognition so as to redefine South Africa values and skills in technology.

Stop Gender Based Violence

Tshwane University of Technology students who reside at Pretoria West, at Little Manhattan student residence gathered together on 20 August 2021 to stand up against the Gender Based Violence that is taking place in the country.

According to an anonymous source this event took place because of two reasons, being, they saw a video trending of a boyfriend physically assaulting his girlfriend for unknown reasons and the other reason being to commemorate women icons who stood for women's rights in South Africa since its women's month.

One of the resident committee members, Miss Mpumelelo Hlophe, said that in most cases the act of GBV occurs when the is an extraordinary sign of jealousy in any relationship, between those specific individuals.

The theme for the day was “we urge everyone to come and enjoy the day with us to stop the abuse against women”, however the GBV awareness campaign was also to educate students to accept the Lesbian Gays Bisexual Transgender Queer Intersex community.

“Gender Based Violence is a violation of an individuals human rights because once you start acting in an unpleasant manner you simply violating how one should conduct and present themselves in that particular situation,” said Mpumelelo.

Members of the TUT South African Students Congress (SASCO), Miss Simangele Dinuba and Miss Sihawukele Mlambo, were also part of this initiative to share their experiences and views regarding GBV.

Simangele as a guest speaker from the SASCO organization at Pretoria campus, said that one of the inducements why men still forces themselves to women is because of the indigenous beliefs that men have more power than women and that things should go according to their lead.

According to a report conducted by Statistics South Africa (Stats SA), notes that rape targeting women and girls is one of the biggest and also a leading factor of Gender Based Violence facing South Africa. It also suggests that 250 out of every 100 000 women are victims of sexual offences.

This was supported by a report by the South African Police Services stating that 80% of the sexual offences reported in 2016 and 2017 were rape.

“The motive and aim of the event seem to be met, because when we organized this event, we wanted to provide a forum for a dialogue and strategy-sharing of GBV and we did exactly that today”, Sihawukele said.

Residents of Little Manhattan joined the campaign in large numbers and closed off the event by lighting candles and sang the national anthem “Nkosi sikelela Africa” to pray for deliverance, and also to honor and pay respect to women and girls who lost their lives due to GBV.

Tsibogo Showered With Donations

 

Learners and educators at Tsibogo Secondary school in Mabopane unit U, were excited after they received important donations from Dalindyebo Foundation.

On Friday 28 May, the founder of the foundation, Mr. Itumeleng Sonti, visited the school to show his support and donated sanitary products and school shoes to learners in need.

“My late father believed in power of education, his drive made me to be who I am today and that was the reason behind to initiate Dalindyebo Foundation,” Sonti said.

Members of African National Congress Youth league (ANCYL), Mr. Melusi Gigaba and Mr. Bafuze Yabo also donated more than 100 pairs of school shoes and sanitary pads to the learners who are mostly in need. “Our objective is to encourage the black localized schools to focus on their education, we are here because we need leaders like Itumeleng Sonti, who still value the power of education.” Melusi Gigaba said.

“People say you are the future leaders, however I say you are leaders now because you lead yourselves and your morals. Today we gathered here not because we have nothing to do, however it is because we believe that you are the Chief Executive Officers (CEO) of your own lives.” said Bafuze Yabo.

Mercy Motaung from Soshanguve community radio station was part of the project she said that educators are now scared of learners because of the behavior that is portrayed by learners towards their educators, she then promised that she will monitor how pupils wear school uniform because it says a lot about them.

School principal, Mr. Justice Mokgotsi thanked all members of Dalindyebo Foundation for their generosity, he said the school catered these donated products for learners mostly from disadvantaged homes.

“Whatever they are going to give you, please accept it because they could have chosen any other school but instead they chose us, and be grateful” he said.

The community also joined this project to show how thankful they were for these donations made by Dalindyebo Foundation.
